Philadelphia: Best Things to do in Spring 2021

February 17, 2021
As the pandemic continues to drone on, so does our desire to get out of the house. Many events were canceled or postponed this year, leaving us to wonder: when will “real life” get its comeback?

Well, as the weather starts to warm, we won’t have to keep wondering. We’ll be able to hang with friends and family outdoors without freezing our toes off and without sitting in a bubble. Beloved events are coming back as well as many other new experiences to have. Keep reading to learn more about the best things to do in Philadelphia come spring 2021.

Greensgrow Farms

Greensgrow Farms is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting urban farming and a sustainable Philadelphia. This non-profit runs two garden centers, many educational programs, food access programs, and other projects-all dedicated to promoting more green and sustainable communities.

Their original location is just outside of Fishtown at 2501 E Cumberland St, Philadelphia, PA 19125. Having been closed in 2020, this location is making a strong comeback. This coming May, you will be able to visit their pay-as-you-can farmstand and walk around the farm grounds exploring their farm animals, beehives, and hydroponic produce gardens. Walk free around the grounds or pay 10$/person for a scheduled guided tour. This coming spring their brand new Garden center will be opening to the public. Attend gardening workshops, get great produce, and escape the city for an afternoon to enjoy the green scene at Greensgrow Farms.

Check out their events calendar this coming spring to see what is coming up, or follow them on Facebook to get the latest updates. Click here to learn more about Greensgrow Farms.

PHS Philadelphia Flower Show

One of the most anticipated events of the year will continue to excite the public this coming spring. PHS is to host its 192nd annual Philadelphia Flower show from June 5-13th. This year, for the very first time in the event’s history, it will be hosted outside, in FDR park.

This year’s theme: “Habitat: Nature’s Masterpiece,” will use the park as its scene to display the work of the world’s premier garden and landscape artists. This annual flower show will keep some things conventional, as they will continue to feature their famous demonstrations, entertainment, themed nights, and marketplace. Cherry Street Pier

From November 6, 2020–March 31, 2021, you can go on down to Cherry Street Pier and revel in the creativity that surrounds you-maybe even take some pictures. Brooklyn-born multimedia artist, John Schlesinger, in collaboration with other local artists, explores trauma, loss, memories, and renewal using recycled materials in his new art exhibition entitled: After the Fall.

This art installation features found materials from the Cherry Street Pier and Penn’s Landing in conjunction with neon lights and projections to represent the revitalization of the Waterfront. So, before it closes, go on down to Cherry Street Pier to experience ‘After the fall.’ If you’re already too late, don’t fret, Cherry Street Pier is home to many of Philadelphia’s artists and creatives. You can walk through the gallery to see the latest exhibition or do some shopping at the Cherry Street Pier Artist and Artisans Market. The Marketplace is open select Fridays from 4-9 pm and select Sundays from 12 pm-5 pm. The Cherry Street Pier also has plenty of food and beverage vendors to visit, in case you get hungry looking at all of the art.

South 9th Street Italian Market Festival

In May 2021, Philadelphia’s favorite block party is back in business! On May 22nd and 23rd, South 9th street will be transformed into the largest food festival in Phili. There will be live music, arts and crafts, a Half Ball Tournament, a Grease Pole contest, and so many delicious food options to indulge in.

In addition to Italian delicacies, there will be an array of Asian, Mexican, and South American foods to choose from.
