Where to Move in Philadelphia After College

July 6, 2021
Whether you go to Drexel, Temple, or the University of Pennsylvania, a question you are probably asking yourself is whether you want to stay in Philadelphia or not. Well, if this is the case, then you should stay in Philly. The reason why is because of all the beautiful areas you may have missed while living on or near campus. Living in Philadelphia and being a young professional is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the city and everything it has to offer. Below is listed all of the great places you should consider moving to after you graduate college.

Fishtown and Northern Liberties

In 2020 with COVID-19 still upholding our way of life, it is now harder to navigate new areas and decide which area is the best after college. One thing is for sure, though; you can’t go wrong with Fishtown and Northern Liberties. A favorite among graduates and people in their 20’s, you’ll have access to everything, including music, excellent restaurants (Some of which have appeared Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), a bar scene with plenty of craft breweries, transportation, and arcades. This area is a must-visit when things are back to normal.

Manayunk

A newly popular spot among recently graduated students and young professionals. This area offers more of a suburban feel rather than the hustle and bustle of the city. About 20 minutes of driving distance from center city, Manayunk provides commuters with a less stressful experience and an easier commute. Manayunk is also known for a young population with a great Main street and booming bar scene. Aside from bars and restaurants, Manayunk is also known for running trails, especially scenic routes that are built right along the Schuylkill River. Manayunk is a great place to consider for graduates who want a popular area on a budget.

Fairmount

A favorite in Philadelphia, Fairmount is known to be more of a quaint and peaceful neighborhood. While living in Fairmount, you’ll have access to a great bar and restaurant scene with plenty of live music, but you’ll also have more options if you are looking for a quieter experience. Fairmount is surrounded by museums, all within walking distance. In particular is the Philadelphia Museum of Art, an absolute gem for those who haven’t been there and only a 5-10 minute walk for those living in Fairmount. But aside from that, you also have the Franklin Institute, the Barnes Foundation, and Rodin all at your disposal. Not to mention that there is also Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods not even a mile away.

Rittenhouse Square

Maybe on the pricier side for those first leaving college, but Rittenhouse Square is worth it if it’s something you can afford. It’s a beautiful area with high-quality restaurants (Parc, The Dandelion, Abe Fisher, Harper’s Garden, and plenty more) all around you. Rittenhouse is home to some of the best shopping centers in the city. Center City is also a short walking distance away for those who are planning on commuting. Don’t forget to check out the farmers market there every Saturday starting at 9. Rittenhouse Square is an excellent area for an aspiring young professional who wants to emerge in an area with everything to offer.
