While most events are temporarily canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a safe way to enjoy Philadelphia is to visit the many parks that it has to offer. No one park in Philly is the same but they all range from urban parks to actual hiking trails. These are some of the parks in Philly that you can visit when you’re looking to get out of the house
Wissahickon Valley Park
This park will take anyone off guard. Located in the northwest corner of Philadelphia, this park will convince anyone that you’re no longer in an urban city. With over 50 trails ranging from moderate to challenging and 10 miles to explore, this park is perfect for anyone who wants to get a nature break from the hustle and bustle of the city. This park is a must for anybody living in Philadelphia
Fairmount Park
Next up, we have Fairmount Park. Located just behind the Art Museum is one of the largest municipal parks in Philadelphia. With little over 2,000 acres to explore, this park is perfect for anyone looking for a spot to relax for the day. Fairmount Park is located right on the Schuylkill River with the park broken up into two sections, East Park and West Park. Fairmount Park has plenty to offer with hiking trails, sightseeing, picnicking spots, and biking trails, it’s hard to run out of things to do in this park.
Schuylkill River Park
This park is not as outdoorsy as the previous parks mentioned but it still has a nice urban feeling. Located right in the middle of Center City, Schuylkill River Park is perfect for anyone looking for a quick relaxation spot without having to travel too far out of their way. Schuykill River Park may look small but it still has plenty to offer such as trails built out onto the water, a dog park so you can bring your little friend, and plenty of grass spots to hang out near the water. Great location for a quick lunch break
Penn Treaty Park
Located just off the Delaware River in the northeastern section of Philadelphia, this park is perfect for anyone looking for a spot to hang out all day long. Penn Treaty doesn’t have much to offer, but the views along the water completely make up for it. Penn Treaty Park is the perfect spot for just hanging out with friends.
FDR Park
Lastly, we have FDR Park, one of the more unknown parks of Philadelphia. FDR is located at the very southern tip of Philadelphia, just a couple blocks away from the Wells Fargo Center and the Lincoln Financial Field. This park has a very traditional feeling to it, meaning that it’s very similar to most urban parks more specifically central park in New York City. It’s a beautiful park that has plenty to offer including fishing, museums, and of course, the FDR Skate park which is a must for any skaters in Philadelphia.
Definitely get out there and explore Philadelphia, this city has plenty to offer and is great for anyone looking to get a breath of fresh air in a constantly hustling city.
