Exercising is a great way to keep the mind and body right while in lockdown. With gyms closing backup In Philly and the weather getting colder, people are forced to work out at home. The first lockdown had people getting creative with their at-home workouts. Virtual workout classes in your living became the norm, and it looks like we're heading back to that.
You can get by doing a home workout with minimal space and equipment. Even if you are not doing any virtual workout classes, you can still break a sweat in your living room. Body-weight workouts are great for any skill level.
All of these exercises can be the foundation of a solid home workout regimen:
Try doing 3 to 4 rounds of these exercises, doing as many reps as you can. There are tons of fitness resources available online, but these four exercises are a great start and have many different variations to change it up.
Another at-home activity that can easily be done is stretching and yoga. For some, living this new sedentary lifestyle sitting behind a computer all day leaves hips and back tighter than ever. Try these
stretches to loosen up your hips, to make sitting down all day a little more comfortable.
The weather seems to be all over the place in Philadelphia anymore. We go from bitter freezing weather to beautiful sunny days in the winter. On those beautiful days, please take advantage of it and get outside and get some fresh air. We even made a list of our favorite running routes in Philadelphia that you could try. If running is not quite your forte, then just going for a walk in a park could be all you need to get a break from being cooped up all day. Just remember to wear a mask and keep a safe social distance while out in the city.
If you did not get around to this during the first lockdown, then decluttering your home or apartment could be a great thing to keep you busy. Since you know you will be inside for a little while, you might as well organize your living space a little.
Closets will most likely be the source of most unnecessary clutter. If you have any old clothes, you can donate them to your nearest clothing drop or Goodwill store. Small acts like this can mean the world for someone struggling this holiday season.
There are probably tons of old food that haven't been touched in months or maybe even years for those with pantries. Cleaning out old food pantries is very satisfying because now, next time you go food shopping, you can stock up on more of the food you love.
If you are getting rid of canned food and other non-perishable foods, there are ample opportunities to donate them to people in need through
Philabundance.
Decluttering your home or apartment may not be the most fun way to spend your time in isolation, but after you're done, you will feel much more satisfied looking around at your clutter-free living space.
Unfortunately, we're back in another partial shutdown going into the holiday season. We can be smart and practice social distancing when we leave the house and avoid large groups of people. Hopefully, these tips will help you stay active through the new "Stay at Home" restrictions.
