5 Tips for Keeping Your Apartment Clean

April 28, 2020

Keep your living space in order with a little spring cleaning.

When you have a busy life, keeping your apartment clean is not an easy task, especially when you have a busy life. At the end of the day, putting away dishes or laundry is the last thing on your mind. With these easy tips – you’ll have a clean apartment in no time!

Staying on Top of Everyday Chores

Everything has a place, or should in your home. When you get home, instead of throwing your shoes, keys, and phone around in your house, make sure they are put in the same place every day to keep your apartment looking clean. While you’re cooking, try to clean and put away dishes and don’t let them sit on the stove or in the sink. Declutter your desk or counters by tossing away mail and trash the minute you walk in the door. All of these little five minute increments add up to a cleaner home in no time. You don’t have to physically dust, wipe, and vacuum every day – but straighten up when you can to minimize the amount of cleaning.

Make Your Bed

This may be an obvious cleaning tactic, but making your bed in the morning sets you for the day ahead, and can make your bedroom already look much cleaner. This should be the first thing you do when you’re out of bed for the day! Not only making your bed every day but always make sure to have changed your sheets and pillowcases every once in a while, pop it in your laundry, get your extra fresh sheets, and you’re good to go.

Use Organizational Tools

To maximize your apartment space, try to invest in storage options that will give you the peace of mind of a cleaner apartment. For example, shoe racks are perfect for storing your shoes instead of having them thrown everywhere around the house. Under the bed storage and closet storage is a smart way to hide your clutter. Shelving is a good way to store your winter clothes so that they aren’t taking up space in your drawers.

Have a Schedule

If you live with roommates, make a schedule for both of you to split up chores. For example, one person could be in charge of the kitchen cleaning whilst the other is in charge of the living room. You could even alternate weeks between the two of you. If you live by yourself, schedule a cleaning day once a week – possibly on Sundays so that your apartment is clean for the week.

Clean Surfaces

When I say clean surfaces, I mean every possible surface in your apartment. This includes vacuuming, dusting, wiping down the bathroom and kitchen. Your kitchen stove can quickly turn greasy, with burned grime everywhere. Scrub the countertops, stove, and other items to keep the kitchen clean. For your bathroom, keep a roll of paper towels and disinfectant nearby so that you can wipe off the countertop, sink, and toilet seat in only a few seconds each day. It’s easy to forget to wipe these areas down, but it is essential to clean surfaces of high touch areas. These high-touch surfaces also include phones, remote controls, counters, tables, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, keyboards, and laptops.
